Building gender equality in the Cinti region

This educational programme is based on the project in Cooperation for Development that the NGDOs Zabalketa and the Ayni Centre have been undertaking in the Cinti region in Bolivia between 2012 and 2016.

The project's geographical setting is the Department of Chuquisaca, in the provinces of Nor Cinti and Sud Cinti, and focuses on 28 rural communities belonging to the municipalities of Camargo, San Lucas, and Culpina, which are home to around 10,500 people of Quechua origin.

The programme's aim has been to reinforce the capabilities and leadership of women as a social group, and so uphold the position they occupy in the socio-cultural, political, economic and personal ambits.

In order to do so, the work has focused on the following three components:

1. Reinforce women's capabilities and competencies to enable them to occupy leadership positions

2. Ensure local decision-making institutions (local authorities and rural labour organisations) are more receptive to women's effective participation

3. Reinforce the mandate given to women's organisations for driving local socio-economic development
