ZABALKETA ASSOCIATION FOR COOPERATION AND DEVELOPMENT

The Zabalketa Association is a Basque Non-Governmental Organisation that was founded in 1991, and has its head office in Getxo (Bizkaia).

Our work at Zabalketa is designed to raise awareness on the need for human dignity for all, and gather all the necessary resources to channel them into projects that favour the rounded development of the most disadvantaged people, mainly in developing countries.

Accordingly, and with a view to implementing the structural changes the world requires, it operates locally by organising awareness and education schemes designed to strengthen the commitment of civil society in the developed nations; and internationally it is involved in cooperation projects in countries in the Americas, Africa and Asia that promote fair and sustainable human development.

AYNI, CENTRE FOR WOMEN'S EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT

The Ayni Centre for Women's Education and Development is a non-profit Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), and was formally constituted in 1991. Its remit is to improve women's quality of life and their position at different representational levels within their communities by strengthening their capabilities and developing their potentialities. Accordingly, the Ayni Centre is an instrument at the service of the community for the achievement of Sustainable Human Development with a gender perspective.

The Ayni Centre's geographical operating area covers the municipalities of San Lucas and Camargo, located in the province of Nor Cinti, and the municipality of Culpina, in the province of Sud Cinti, belonging to the Department of Chuquisaca, and considered the three poorest municipalities in Bolivia. The Ayni Centre has cooperation agreements there with different public institutions for the purpose of undertaking ongoing work in the promotion of women's development and empowerment.

In these three municipalities, with a population of around 67,000 people, the Ayni Centre dedicates all its efforts to working with rural families with the fewest resources and furthest away from urban centres, where there are very few services.

The Ayni Centre formally belongs to networks such as the Plataforma de la Mujer-Women's Platform, and informally to an array of sundry associations, alliances and work fora in gender issues, and it has received accolades from social movements and state institutions.

BASQUE AGENCY FOR DEVELOPMENT COOPERATION

The Basque Agency for Development Cooperation is a public body with the remit to plan and manage development policies in underdeveloped countries, pursuant to the principles and objectives set forth in the Law on Cooperation.

The mission of the Basque Agency for Development Cooperation is to help in the struggle against poverty and promote human development. To do so, it has a Strategic Master Plan that defines the geographic, mainstream and sectorial priorities that underpin all its actions in the field, as well as a line of work in Education for Development in the Basque Country designed to foster a critical awareness.
