Since 2007, the Zabalketa Association has been pursuing an educational strategy called "Zabaldu Mundura", which in Basque means "Open to the World. It involves linking the work we perform within the field of International Cooperation with Education for Development.

This strategy enables us to ensure that our projects and programmes in Cooperation for Development not only help to improve people's wellbeing in developing countries, but also become tools for furthering awareness and education in our developed world.

Accordingly, we have organised various educational projects for their inclusion at different levels of formal education, such as, for example, one involving learning based on practical cases, with these cases being precisely Zabalketa's own projects in Cooperation for Development, which it undertakes in conjunction with its local partners.

Zabalketa has so far arranged four projects within this line: two located in Peru and another two in Bolivia, which inform a series of teaching resources in Basque, Spanish and English, made up of teaching units, videos, activity sheets, maps, and photos.

The methodology for the classroom use of these materials is the "Case Method", which involves forming groups of 4-5 students to analyse a real issue, need or vulnerability. These groups then put forward possible recommendations for its solution or mitigation to their peers for their defence and discussion in class.

At Zabalketa, we are applying this learning approach mainly in Occupational Training Colleges and the University of the Basque Country, recording highly satisfactory results in the acquisition of knowledge and competencies, taking into account the results of the assessments made involving both students and teaching staff.
