Description of teaching materials
Two dossiers
Dossier 1 provides a geographical and administrative introduction to the area of Peru in which the programme has taken place, going on to describe its strengths and weaknesses in environmental, social and economic terms, providing information on the inequality between women and men.
Dossier 2 describes the work both in Peru and in the Basque Country, providing information on the activities undertaken, the achievements made, the difficulties encountered, and the new challenges that lie ahead.
Two videos
Following the same approach as the two dossiers, Video 1 shows the conditions of life in these rural communities, and Video 2 explains the work undertaken to improve these conditions, and they both include the testimonies of both the local population and the technical and management team of the Southern Network of Caritas Peru.
Photos and map
A map of the project area is provided, as we well as several photos of the reality of the three districts, together with a number of pictures of the programme’s activities.
Use of materials
At Zabalketa, we suggest using the materials in the following way:
First watch Video 1, then hand out a copy of Dossier 1 to each student and form groups of 4-5 people.
All the groups are to set out to resolve the same problem identified "Low community engagement for the joint orchestration of local development".
The first activity will involve each student reading Dossier 1 for themselves, identifying those reasons that explain and cause the problem in question.
Each group will then agree on which of the reasons they have identified they want to work on, creating a project for trying to eliminate or reduce this issue’s impact on the overall problem.
For example, if one of the reasons for the low engagement of women is illiteracy, a project will be designed for teaching women to read and write.
