All aboard

In this unit, we are going to learn about the world’s main migratory movements throughout history, as well as the reasons behind them. Secondly, we are going to study some facts and figures about immigration and emigration in the Basque Country. In addition, we will come to realise how enriching it is to go to other countries and meet people from other cultures.

Read this carefully.

  1. The number of people leaving the Basque Country, in other words, emigrants, is higher than the number of people arriving, that is, immigrants.

Let’s think about the following questions:

1. Why do you think this is happening?

2. Has anyone in your family or anyone you know had to go and work somewhere else?

3. How do you feel about someone having to leave their country to lead a better life?

4. How do you think those people feel when they have to leave their home and their family to go and live somewhere else?

5. What do you think about those people who leave their country willingly because they have decided they prefer to live somewhere else?
