In this unit, we are going to learn about the world’s main migratory movements throughout history, as well as the reasons behind them. Secondly, we are going to study some facts and figures about immigration and emigration in the Basque Country. In addition, we will come to realise how enriching it is to go to other countries and meet people from other cultures.

Do people from other countries come to the Basque Country?
Read the following text carefully:

1. In the Basque Country, we live alongside people from other countries. Specifically and according to the figures we have for 2011, there are 176,049 people from outside, accounting for 8% of the overall population.
   
   51% of these migrant people are men, so 49% are women; in other words, there are almost the same number of migrant men and women in the Basque Country.

These 176,049 people come from more than 100 widely differing countries, such as Burkina Faso, Angola, Jordan, Kazakhstan or Peru,
