Competence in language communication

The activities programmed in this unit favour the written and oral expression of feelings and emotions. The study topic chosen accordingly is water, in its facet as an element that can also be used for fun and games.

Pupils will be asked to write about a personal water-related experience, using vocabulary associated with feelings and emotions.

They will then analyse the language they have used to describe this personal recollection of a water-based experience.

Competence in the culture of science, technology and health

Pupils are aware of the importance water has for our physical health, and this unit will help them to realise that water also makes us psychologically and emotionally fit and strong, as we enjoy playing with water, both on our own and in groups.

Processing information and honing digital skills

The unit’s visual language and imagery is used to teach pupils the knowledge and skills required to find and select relevant information and then use it both to answer the questions they are asked and write a story describing their positive experience with water, which they will then present to the rest of the class.

Through this unit, pupils will use technological resources, such as watching videos, downloading documents and using software (word processor).

Learning to learn

This will provide an opportunity for each pupil to share their knowledge and, in turn, learn from the experiences of all their other classmates.

An analysis of the video will permit pupils to learn from the experiences of other people who live a long way away.

Based on the story-writing task, pupils will be able to reflect upon their experience and share their knowledge, and they will also learn from the experiences of all their other classmates.

Social competence and citizenship

This unit encourages the study and use of a verbal and written language that allows expressing the feelings and emotions required for social interaction.

On the other hand, the video is also used to help identify those examples of body language that express emotions and feelings, and which are universal and common to all cultures.

After they have watched the video, pupils will have the opportunity to take part in the sharing and discussion of their opinions, as well as pool their personal experiences.

The activities proposed will allow pupils to discover experiences and examples of fun and games that are different to their own, and therefore arouse their interest in learning about other circumstances and ways of life.

The unit provides details on the Right to Play, which is contained in the United Nations’ 1990 Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Competence for personal initiative and independence

Pupils are given the opportunity to write their own personal story involving a positive water-related experience, fostering their own initiative in the choice of the experience to describe and how to do so.

The use of the language of feelings and emotions present in the unit favours, on the one hand, an understanding of their own identity and, on the other, interactive communication with others when listening to their classmates’ stories.

Competence in the culture of humanism and art

This unit links the audiovisual language of the video to the text each pupil writes, with both expressions sharing the same topic, namely, a positive experience with water.

This means pupils can appreciate and become aware of the different ways art has to express feelings and emotions, at the same time as they learn about the devices, such as adjectives, expressions, categories, light, etc., involved in the different artistic languages.
This unit studies the value of Joy, and the feelings and emotions it generates. The proper expression of emotions and feelings favours the development of global coexistence.

In turn, the value of Nature, embodied in this case through water as a vital and pleasurable element, highlights the importance it also has for people’s social, emotional and psychological development.
